Advisory Regarding Hunting Enforcement Action by MNRF From Grand Chief Linklater

2022-09-27 | political office

As Grand Chief, I was made aware of an incident that occurred this past weekend between four (4) Mushkegowuk Members and Conservation Officers of Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), resulting in two (2) of our members being charged with provincial offences.

It was disturbing to hear the treatment our members endured while they were exercising their Treaty Right. Both, Mushkegowuk Council and Ontario MNRF are investigating the circumstances of this incident and we hope to reconcile this situation.

I want to assure our members that Mushkegowuk Council will not tolerate mistreatment directed at our members while they are exercising their Treaty Rights on our own Treaty lands.

We would like to wish everyone a successful fall harvest. Please stay safe and watch out for each other while out on the land.
