RESOLUTION NO. 1987-48

SUBJECT: DEVELOPMENT OF TRIBAL PRIORITIES

WHEREAS we are a sovereign Nation who never surrendered our land or our aboriginal rights, and;

WHEREAS Treaty No. 9 was merely a treaty of peace and friendshtp, and;

WHEREAS the federal and provincial government and, before them, the Hudson's Bay Company, have relentlessly attempted to reduce us to a dependent and inferior position in violation of the Treaty, and;

WHEREAS this systematic mistreatment, these unjust and immoral actions are the basic root cause of Łany of our social problems, including alcohol abuse.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Assembly direct each member community to develop a suggested list of tribal priorities so that we do not focus energies and resources in dealing with symptoms of more basic issues and problems.
