RESOLUTION NO. 1989-97

SUBJECT: NEW FORT ALBANY SCHOOL

WHEREAS the present educational facility in Fort Albany, known as St. Anne's School, has in previous years been continually plagued with problems in the areas of structure, meeting building codes and standards and, most recently, the discovery of asbestos;·

AND WHEREAS the Fort Albany First Nation wishes to design an environmentally and culturally appropriate new schoo;

AND WHEREAS the Department of Indian Affairs is attempting to apply a 11priorization11 formula to the schedule of construction of schools for First Nation students;

THEREFORE0BE IT RESOLVED THAT very serious efforts be made to facilitate early completion of the feasibility study for the new school for the Fort Albany First Nation and that the final document be advanced to Treasury Board for approval to begin the construction phase immediately following completion of the feasibility study.
