SUBJECT: KASHECHEWAN SAW MILL

WHEREAS the Kashechewan First Nation is in the process of Self-Government;
WHEREAS the Kashechewan First Nation has tried to undertake a saw mill operation for the past ten years;

WHEREAS the Department of Indian Affairs told the Kashechewan First Nation to cut six thousand logs before they can do saw milling;

WHEREAS the Kashechewan First Nation cut six thousand logs and purchased the saw mill and tractor to turn the saw and the Department of Indian Affairs should provide funding for milling labour of which they never did;
WHEREAS in years past the logs sat with no funding available to mill them and over time became rotten and of no use for lumber.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Kashechewan First Nation seek support and lobbying from the Mushkegowuk Council for further development of its sawmill project.
