RESOLUTION NO. 1990-141
SUBJECT: SEVERN RIVER CHIEFS COALITION
WHEREAS the Severn Rivers Coalition has been diligent to protect the interests of their people and their lands against the threat of private developers through plans to develop the hydraulic potential of the Severn River system;
AND WHEREAS the Coalition has developed a draft Memorandum of Intent for the purpose of entering into negotiations to address how their traditional lands are to be developed under the Memorandum of Understanding;
AND WHEREAS this initiative has been put on hold by NAN because it was not dealt with at the Wahgoshig Keewaywin Conference;
AND WHEREAS the Severn River Chiefs Coalition wishes to proceed with this initiative by asking First Nations and/or tribal councils for their support without having to wait for the next Keewaywin Conference;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Assembly supports the initiative of the Severn River Chiefs Coalition in their efforts to pursue their plans.
