RESOLUTION NO. 1996-08-09
SUBJECT: CO-MANAGEMENT OF MIGRATORY BIRDS
WHEREAS migratory birds have always played a significant role in the lifestyle and survival of the Mushkegowuk people;
WHEREAS the harvest of migratory birds continues to play an important role in the tradition and cultural lifestyle of the people;
WHEREAS the harvest of migratory birds was governed by a code of ethics, based on traditional knowledge and understanding of migratory birds, to ensure the preservation of the species and to ensure a quality of migratory birds;
WHEREAS it is recognized that migratory routes of the waterfowl harvested span the whole of the North American continent and are harvested by others;
WHEREAS this Assembly recognizes that the management of migratory birds must be done co-operatively with other jurisdictions;
WHEREAS the 6th Annual Assembly through Resolution 1991-11 called for the Mushkegowuk Council to work towards the co-management of

migratory birds with other First Nations as well as Canada and Ontario;
WHEREAS this Assembly wishes to reaffirm its support of the spirit and intent of Resolution 1991-11;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council resume its efforts in developing a planning and negotiation process with the Canadian Wildlife Service and the Ministry of Natural Resources towards a comanagement arrangement for migratory birds in the Mushkegowuk traditional lands.
