Constitutional Amendments on Direct Election of Mushkegowuk Grand Chief

RESOLUTION NO. 1996-08-16

SUBJECT: CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS ON DIRECT ELECTION OF MUSHKEGOWUK GRAND CHIEF

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Council Assembly has for a number of years been considering a change to direct election of the Mushkegowuk Grand Chief, and by Assembly Resolution 1995-10-34 resolved to work towards full community elections for the Grand Chief for November 1996;

WHEREAS the Assembly has reviewed draft Constitutional amendments setting out election procedures for direct election of the Grand Chief, and a fuller description of the role of the Grand Chief;

WHEREAS members of the Assembly see the need for further community consultation on these issues;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the draft Constitutional amendments on Grand Chief direct election procedures and on the role of the Grand Chief be referred to the communities for discussion and for consideration at the next Annual Assembly or Special Assembly.
