RESOLUTION NO. 1996-08-24
SUBJECT: EXTENSION OF HYDRO GRID FROM MOOSONEE TO ATTAWAPISKAT
WHEREAS the remote communities of the Mushkegowuk Council are burdened with the high cost of living;
WHEREAS the remote communities of the Mushkegowuk Council demand a safe reliable and affordable source of energy;
WHEREAS the generation of electricity by diesel generators demand the use of fossil fuels;
WHEREAS the transportation, handling, storage and combustion of fossil fuels is a recognized threat to the environment;
WHEREAS the people of the Mushkegowuk territory are traditional wardens of the environment;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Assembly supports the efforts of the Attawapiskat First Nation, Fort Albany First Nation and the Kashechewan First Nation to extend the grid from Moosonee to Attawapiskat.
