RESOLUTION NO. 1997-08-26

SUBJECT: REVIEW OF MUSHKEGOWUK WOMEN'S ISSUES

WHEREAS women m First Nation communities experience various problems in matters of family relations;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly recognize problems experienced by women in First Nation communities in relation to:

Household entitlement and financial childcare obligations;

Imposition on family matters by the federal Indian Act;

Family conflicts caused by the provincial family and social welfare legislation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly direct that these issues be identified as a topic for discussion and action during the next year, in preparation for a report and adoption of further specific steps at the next Mushkegowuk assembly.
