SUPPORT FOR A COMMUNITY-BASED HEALING CENTRE IN KASHECHEWAN

WHEREAS the Nishnawbe Aski Nation signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 1984 in respect to the provision of Child and Family Services in the Nishnawbe Aski area, and;

WHEREAS Payukotayno James and Hudson Bay Fan1ily Services was established to unde11ake the responsibility of social service provision to the families in the Mushkegowuk Traditional Territory, and;

WHEREAS there is growing concern with respect to the removal of chjldren and family disruption in the Mushkegowuk Territory specific to child welfare matters, and;

WHEREAS these matters are better resolved through the traditional practices of our communities and their people.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Grand Chief begin a process to establish a community-based Healing Centre in Kashechewan to deal specifically with issues related to healing the family, and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that tbe necessary funds to support this community­based initiative be pursued with Payukotayno and relevant Ministries responsible for social services.
