RESOLUTION NO. 2002-09-24

SUPPORT OF CREE LANGUAGE TEACHERS

WHEREAS Cree Language Teachers are certified with the Ontario College of Teachers to teach Native As a second Language within the schools of Ontario, and;

WHEREAS our Education Authorities and Education Departments responsible for our First Nation Schools continue to experience difficulty in maintaining consistent staffing due to the shortage of teachers throughout Canada, and;

WHEREAS local human resources such as Cree Language Teachers need to be encouraged and supported by their various Education Authorities and Education Departments in preparation of implementing full Cree Immersion Programs including Day Care, Kindergarten to Grade Eight.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates in Assembly direct the Education Authorities and Education Departments to identify financial resourcing to implement program by which local human resources such as Cree Language Teachers are encouraged and supported to pursue professional development necessary toward full qualification as classroom teachers by 2004.
