SUPPORT OF FIRST NATION WATER SERVICES
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk people are very aware of problems with the quality of water within our communities and are deeply concerned about those problems;
WHEREAS the Report on Water Quality of the Ontario Clean Water Agency has revealed that five out of six water treatment facilities within the Mushkegowuk region are classified as medium to high risk facilities, and are therefore potentially at risk for Walkerton type crisis;
WHEREAS there is a need for immediate action to be taken to improve water quality in Mushkegowuk Territory;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Assembly supports the Regional Plan of Mushkegowuk Council's Technical Services Department as a programme to begin addressing the serious concerns and risks surrounding water quality within Mushkegowuk Territory, and;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Assembly urges the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs to accept its responsibility for water issues in Mushkegowuk Territory, and to provide concrete support to Mushkegowuk Council and its agencies in addressing the concerns and risks surrounding water quality;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Assembly supports Technical Services and the Aboriginal Water/Wastewater Association of Ontario (AWWAO) in their collective efforts to improve water quality and to provide training and certification of water and wastewater operators m Mushkegowu.k: Territory and Ontario.
