CREE IMMERSION
WHEREAS the Youth, Elders, Members and Leaders of the Mushkegowuk communities have expressed their concerns in various forums, conferences, workshops, gatherings and meetings regarding the decline and use of the Cree Language, and;
WHEREAS these discussions are strong indicators regarding the need to implement programs within our Day Cares and First Nation schools toward supporting the retention, preservation and maintenance of the Cree Language, and;
WHEREAS it is the consensus of members within Mushkegowuk communities for our Day Cares and First Nation schools to begin planning the development and implementation of Cree Immersion, and;
WHEREAS Omushkego Education has the mandate to facilitate this regional process on behalf of our First Nation communities.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates in Assembly direct Omushkego Education to begin the process of consultation in the development of regional cmTiculum documents and related resources for the implementation of Cree Immersion in our Day Cares and First Nation schools Kindergaiien to Grade Three, beginning no later than August 2004.
