HUNTING EXCEPTION IN FIREARMS SENTENCING

WHEREAS First Nations individuals who are convicted of firearms charges sometimes have sentences imposed which include restrictions on their use of firearms;

WHEREAS the firearms legislation specifically allows that First Nations individuals who are sentenced with firearms restrictions can ask for exceptions in order to allow hunting for food or livelihood;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly supports the use by our members and the courts of the legislative exception in firearms sentencing which allows First Nations individuals to hunt for food and livelihood.
