ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
WHEREAS the lakes, rivers and streams of our traditional lands have been and continue to be the lifelines of our traditional lands that sustains and nourishes all the inhabitants of the land, including our ancestors, from time immemorial;
WHEREAS our traditional lands and our use, development and enjoyment of them will be directly affected by the purity of our waters over time;
WHEREAS currently proposed resource development, including Falconbridge's Montcalm mine, have the potential to adversely affect water quality.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs in Assembly declare that any new development in the traditional territories of Mushkegowuk First Nations must have a goal of discharging water that meets, or exceeds, the quality of the receiving water, before Mushkegowuk First Nations support any such project;
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk Council looks for an opportunity to host an environmental conference to have a discussion and dialogue to address the potential
environmental impacts of resource development within the traditional territories of Mushkegowuk First Nations.
