Treaty 9 Commemoration Gathering and Creefest 2005
WHEREAS the year 2005 will be the one hundredth anniversary of the signing of Treaty 9, in which the British Crown and the British settler governments in northern North America recognized the original status of the Mushkegowuk People and our ownership of Mushkegowuk Territory, and entered into a landsharing agreement with us; and

WHEREAS it is desirable that the Creefest cultural celebration held annually in summer be planned for the summer of 2005; and
WHEREAS the hundredth anniversary of the signing of Treaty 9 is a fundamentally important occasion for the Mushkegowuk People to look backward on our survival as a people and to look forward to our future as a nation;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mushkegowuk Assembly supports the holding of Creefest 2005 together with a major historical and cultural celebration of the signing of Treaty 9 at the same time on the exact location of the original signing of Treaty 9 on the Albany River near the present communities of Fort Albany and Kashechewan; and
Resolution No. 2004-09-10, cont.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk Council, together with NAN, immediately begin planning for the major Creefest 2005 and the Treaty 9 Commemoration joint celebration at the Treaty 9 signing site on the Albany River, including planning by the Mushkegowuk Grand Chief and staff for sourcing and allocation of funds to support the commemoration.
