Mushkegowuk People
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk people have since time immemorial chosen their leadership in the ways that were right for us; and
WHEREAS the laws of Canada that were imposed on us without our consent, such as the Indian Act and the laws of corporations, which attempted to limit our self-government structures, are not appropriate to our history, tradition and our ways; and
WHEREAS it is no longer appropriate for our collective Mushkegowuk leadership to be restricted by such corporate laws, and it is necessary to re-establish our leadership independently from Canadian laws and based solely on our history, tradition and who we are; and
WHEREAS our communities and Elders have over the years developed a draft Omushkego Constitution that truly originates with our people and our history, and parts of that draft Constitution are ready for immediate implementation;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we the representatives of the Omushkego lnniniwuk in Assembly hereby recognize, reassert and confirm, based solely on our inherent rights and jurisdiction, the leadership role of the assembled Chiefs of the Mushkegowuk First

Nations, and declare that the Chiefs in Assembly shall be knows as Onashowewininiwak (or the Council of Chiefs; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we the representatives of the Omushkego lnniniwuk in Assembly hereby recognize, reassert and confirm, based solely on our inherent rights and jurisdiction, the leadership role of the elected chief spokesperson of the Omushkego lnniniwuk , who shall be known as Kihchionashowewininiw (or Grand Chief); and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that we the representatives of the Omushkego lnniniwuk in assembly hereby recognize and confirm, based solely on our inherent rights and jurisdiction, the leadership role of the elected deputy chiefs spokesperson of the Omushkego lnniniwuk, who shall be known as kaochishamishkawat (or Deputy Grand Chief).
