Wind Energy Development in the Mushkegowuk Territory
WHEREAS there is considerable potential for the development of wind energy resources in the Mushkegowuk Territory; and
WHEREAS the First Nations of Mushkegowuk Council have always maintained their inherent right to govern themselves and their traditional lands and resources; and
WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Council Assembly Resolution No. 2007-09-13 endorsed the implementation of the Mushkegowuk Resource Development Protocol;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the First Nations of Mushkegowuk Council collectively assert the right to control and fairly share the benefits of the development of wind energy development within their territories; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the First Nations of Mushkegowuk Council reject the current Provincial allocation policy for wind energy resources, created without respect for Mushkegowuk rights, and require that the Province of Ontario revoke current applications for wind energy development and accept no new applications within the Mushkegowuk Region, subject to the procedure below;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any wind energy projects in the Mushkegowuk Territories must be consented to and led by

Mushkegowuk First Nations and will only be considered through the process of the Mushkegowuk Resource Development Protocol, and the Mushkegowuk First Nations call upon the Province to fully fund this process;
FlNALLY BE IT RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk Council working with the Mushkegowuk First Nations lead any wind data collection, modelling and development of wind testing towers within Mushkegowuk Territory and that the data, models and results remain the property of the First Nations involved.
