Partnership to Document Contamination and Human Health
WHEREAS the abandoned Mid-Canada Line Radar Stations in the Mushkegowuk Region are significant sources of contamination; and
WHEREAS therŁ are widespread concerns among the members of the Mushkegowuk First Nations that their health and well being are being seriously affected by environmental contamination such as mercury and PCBs; and
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre has confirmed contamination of country foods resulting from the abandoned stations; and
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk First Nations are interested in the possibilities of Body Mapping to document health issues;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the First Nations of Mushkegowuk Council support a collaborative effort between the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre and Turtle Island Environmental Resources (TIERS) to document contamination and associated human health impacts.
