Regional Economic Development Corporations

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk First Nations desire to see more active involvement in regional economic development projects and to see more benefits flowing to the communities and their organizations; and

WHEREAS Pasico Corporation had been established in the past to lead regional economic development initiatives; and

WHEREAS other corporations such as Wakenagun Community Futures, James Bay Employment and Training, the Services Company, Five Nation Energy, CreeWest and others all play a role in economic development activities in the region;

WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Council Assembly Resolution 2007-09-11 mandated a review of all Mushkegowuk Affiliated Corporations with the view of strengthening the unity amongst our member communities, and in support of the movement towards self-determination and Nation Building.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates of this Assembly direct the Grand Chief and Executive of Mushkegowuk Council to lead an initiative to consider options and recommendations for the future of regional economic development initiatives including the role of Pasico Corporation;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates of this Assembly direct the Grand Chief and Executive to present options anc;I recommendations for the consideration of the Council of Chiefs, that will include the option of a "super board" model, with the goal of developing final options for presentation next year to the 24th Annual Assembly.
