Omushkego Institute

WHEREAS the Mamohitowin of the Omushkegowuk have repeatedly emphasized the critical importance of our Cree language and culture for the survival and well being of our people now and in the future;

AND WHEREAS the Omushkego Institute has become recognized by the Chiefs in Assembly as an important educational and language institute for the Mushkegowuk People;

AND WHEREAS the Omushkego Institute has a mandate to work on the development of Cree curriculum and materials, development of teacher training for Cree immersion programs and support for the Cree Language teachers for the Omushkego First Nation schools;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mamohitowin of Omushkegowuk recognize the important mandate of the Omushkego Institute in its work of preserving and passing on the language and culture of we the Omushkegowuk; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Omushkego Institute explore further development as a research and training institute, affiliation with existing and established post­secondary university institutions, and working in partnership with the Ojibway Cree Cultural Centre.
