Resource Development

WHEREAS, the bmushkegowuk stand united and will continue to work together when facing resource development and other activities that affect our Homelands; and

WHEREAS, previous resolutions of the Mamowihitowin have endorsed the important and essential role of the Office of the Grand Chief in supporting First Nations in those issues; and

WHEREAS, the Mushkegowuk Resource Development Protocol was endorsed in the past by the Mamowihitowin but has never been fully implemented due to lack of financial resources;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the First Nations of Mushkegowuk will work together to provide the necessary support for the Office of the Grand Chief and agree to consider committing a significant portion of the specific "core consultation funding" they receive from the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs, or an equivalent amount of funding resources, to ensure that the next steps in the implementing the Resource Development Protocol can be taken in the process of achieving the

development of a strong and proud regional Omushkego government; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin supports a two year joint application to the Enhanced Capacity Program of the New Relationship Fund to further build regional capacity for the support of Mushkegowuk First Nations facing new activities on their homelands.
