Resolution No. 2015-01-09

Ojibway Cree Cultural Centre in Timmins

Whereas the Ojibway Cree Cultural Centre (OCCC) has been situated in Timmins since its inception in October 1974;

Whereas the OCCC serves the many First Nations of Nishnawbe Aski seven (7) of which are communities of the Mushkegowuk Council;

Whereas the OCCC provides many services in the areas of language, including translation services and cultural activities;

Whereas there is pressure to move the Centre to Thunder Bay, which is not located in the Treaty Nine area;

Whereas the per capita (population) is in favour of the NAN east communities;

January 28, 2015

Kashechewan First Nation

Therefore, let it be resolved that the Chiefs in assembly support the important services that the OCCC provides;

Therefore be it further resolved that this Mamowihitowin of the Mushkegowuk strongly supports the current location of the OCCC in Timmins.
