Great Moon Gathering Education Conference
WHEREAS the Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk recognizes that the Great Moon Gathering continues to provide important and valuable professional development to our First Nation educators, organizations and community members; and
WHEREAS the "Teacher Recruitment and Retention Proposal" of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada has in the past provided financial support to support the two-day professional development under the auspices of the Great Moon Gathering to our Mushkegowuk communities as well as surrounding communities, which is held every February; and
WHEREAS the "Teacher Recruitment and Retention Proposal" of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada . provides financial support to hold the Great Moon Gathering so that we may provide the most up-to-date workshops and educational information and have the opportunity to share our language, culture and traditions with our educators, so that they in-turn teach our children;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Omushkego Education, under the direction of the Mushkegowuk Council
pursue financial support to fund the Great Moon Gathering, an important initiative that gives First Nation school staff, administrators, child care staff and other organizations the opportunity to learn of the new developments in education as well as the opportunity to learn from our elders about language, culture and traditions.
