Moose Protection and Management Strategy

WHEREAS, our Creator provided us the Omushkegowuk with a natural environment on Mother Earth to sustain our way of life for as long as the sun shines, the grass grows, and rivers flow; and

WHEREAS, our Creator's gifts included sacred teachings that uphold the highest respect for all living creatures, including all the animals; and

WHEREAS the Creator's natural environment and animals continue to play a large part in preserving our culture and traditional way of life; and

WHEREAS, human behaviour in many forms continue to negatively impact the natural environment, including the survival of animals, fish, birds and all other creatures;

WHEREAS it has been reported that the Moose population in Northern Ontario is experiencing a significant decline in population and the absence of Moose in our lives would be very devastating and bring further serious changes to our culture;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the

Omushkegowuk directs the Office of the Grand Chief to create and implement a Moose Protection Strategy that is based on our culture, teachings, practices, to maintain a sustainable Moose population.
