Funding Equality for Nishnawbe Aski Police Service

WHEREAS, adequate police service for every community in Canada is a basic human right and government responsibility; and

WHEREAS, Public Safety and Protection provided by Nishnawbe Aski Police is of paramount importance for the Mushkegowuk First Nations; and

WHEREAS, Mushkegowuk First Nations are now not obtaining police services equal to comparative nonindigenous communities in Ontario and Canada, due to underfunding of NAPS; and

WHEREAS, the governments of Canada and Ontario are called upon by many reports and inquiries to secure and allocate adequate funding levels to police service organizations including Nishnawbe Aski Police Service;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that that that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk calls upon the governments of Canada and Ontario to honour "reconciliation and equality" by approving the operational budget proposal submitted by Nishnawbe Aski Police Service for 2018 -2023.
