Criminal Court Days in Moose Factory, Ontario

WHEREAS the Timmins Courthouse has a satellite location in Moosonee, ON that also provides services to residents of Moose Factory, ON; and

WHEREAS residents of Moose Factory, ON must travel by boat or ferry in order to attend court in Moosonee, ON, and those who cannot afford the cost of the trip miss their court date and are issued a bench warrant; and

WHEREAS an accused person's ability to access court locations and services advances the interests of justice;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council will discuss and explore with all relevant actors, including the Ministry of the Attorney General, the possibility of creating a satellite court location in MoosŁ Factory, ON,.
