Healing Gathering for Sexual Assault Survivors

WHEREAS survivors of Sexual Assault in our communities continue to experience short and long term and complex mental health issues, which is adversely affecting their overall health ad well-being, and

WHEREAS it is reported and proven that sexual assault is a direct contributor to our high rates of suicide, addictions and mental health disorders; and

WHEREAS sexual abuse continues to occur and go unreported, and this must end;

WHEREAS after some careful and strategic thinking, it has been determined the best approach to facilitate discussions the survivors of sexual assault must play an integral lead role in developing a strategy towards a healing journey for survivors of sexual abuse;and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council work with a team of sexual assault survivors and support personnel to plan a regional gathering for sexual assault survivors;

RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk directs the Mushkegowuk Council Executive to source and secure the resources required to conduct a Regional Sexual Assault Survivors Gathering.
