Regional Strategy on Climate Change

WHEREAS, the Omushkego have the inherent right of self-determination and as such are re-asserting their inherent rights and jurisdiction to govern and manage the lands & resources within the Omushkego homelands,

WHEREAS, the Omushkego have been stewards of Omushkego Lands since Time Immemorial,

WHEREAS, the Omushkego have a genuine concern for their lands, water, animals, people, language, culture and traditions, and the impacts from climate change,

WHEREAS, the Omushkego have agreed to begin working together on a regional strategy on climate change and to strike up a committee of individuals from each community, including Peawanuck

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly of the Omushkego at the Annual General Assembly October 24, 2019 direct the leadership of the Omushkego communities to support and work together on a regional strategy on climate change,

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Grand Chief and Mushkegowuk Council are directed to provide the necessary support to establish a regional committee on the development of a regional strategy on climate change.
