Increasing Access to Health Care Services Closer to Omushkego Territory

WHEREAS the Omushkegowuk people currently have to travel great distances to Kingston, Ottawa and Toronto to access specialized health care services

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Chiefs recognize that the Omushkegowuk deserve high quality care within our region or as close to home as possible.

WHEREAS the Grand Chief of Mushkegowuk Council highlighted in the address of the nation that it is a priority to work with health care organizations to improve the quality and access to health care services and;

WHEREAS there is an immediate need to advocate, lobby and pursue partnerships that would increase opportunities to access specialized care within the Mushkegowuk Region or closer to home, and;

WHEREAS there is a current opportunity to work with Weeneebayko Area Health Authority, Sudbury Health Sciences North and Northern Ontario School of Medicine to explore partnership opportunities to establish care for cancer patients in Sudbury.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk directs the Mushkegowuk Council Executive to continue to participate in advocacy and discussions supporting the partnership with Weeneebayko Area Health Authority, Sudbury Health Sciences North and Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
