Resolution No. 2021-11-15

Action Plan Development on Mental Health, Addictions and Homelessness

WHEREAS the opioid crisis and illegal drugs and alcohol epidemic continues to fuel a crisis of addiction and homelessness impacting all Omushkegowuk communities and members; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Task Force has done extensive work over the past years regarding these issues, however the work needs urgent action now; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Health Department is developing a Fire Keeper's program to support the homelessness;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that a forum of our health experts and Directors is needed to assess the dire situations in our communities and prioritize actions to combat addictions, mental health and homelessness; and to generate discussion and ideas; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this 35th Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk mandates Mushkegowuk Council to work with the Mushkegowuk First Nations to develop and implement an Action Plan to enhance our urgent efforts to address the mental health, addictions, and homelessness crisis in our communities.
