Omushkegowuk Nation Rebuilding
WHEREAS we the Omushkego llliliwuk/lnniniwuk are a strong and united people bonded by language, culture, history, tradition, geography, and government; and
WHEREAS we are the First People to inhabit and govern the lands and waters of our vast homelands; and
WHEREAS we have continued to develop strong governance and leadership systems including the creation of Mushkegowuk Council, the election of Grand Chiefs and Deputy Grand Chiefs directly by out citizens, the creation of a draft constitution and the advocacy for a better Treaty relationship with the governments of Canada and Ontario; and
WHEREAS we have established a Nation Rebuilding Initiative which is engaging in discussions with the leadership, elders, women, men and youth of the Mushkegowuk First Nations;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates of this 35th Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk strongly supports the continuation of the Nation Rebuilding Initiative including the ongoing discussions with our communities on the Constitution of the Omushkegowuk and the building of strong modern governance structures.
