Resolution No. 2021-11-22

Review of Health Care System

WHEREAS the First Nations of Mushkegowuk continue to struggle to access quality, timely and culturally appropriate heath care; and

WHEREAS health care is a fundamental right and should be available to everyone on an equitable basis;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Mushkegowuk calls for the complete independent review of the existing health care system in the Mushkegowuk First Nations to see what is working well, what needs to change and the appropriate resolution of issues relating to remoteness; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the review should include the operations and policies of the Nursing Stations and hospitals, health care providers and institutions including Weeneebayko Area Health Authority, Medical associations, medical colleges and Federal and Provincial Governments; and

FINALLY BE RESOLVED that the review should make appropriate recommendations for changes, determine whether discrimination is taking place and whether the possibility for court action is recommended to achieve change and the possibility of compensation in order to improve the health care system to better meet the needs of our people.
