The Treaty Nations of the Mushkegowuk Council encourages everyone to Understand, Respect and Honour the Real Treaty No. 9, As Orally Agreed-to (The James Bay Treaty)
Mushkegowuk Council (November 7, 2023) – In recognition and support of Ontario’s Treaty Recognition Week, Mushkegowuk Council’s Grand Chief Leo Friday, Deputy Grand Chiefs Natasha Martin and Amos Wesley encourages all citizens and governments within the Treaty 9 area and Ontario to learn more, respect and honour the Real Treaty No. 9 (The James Bay Treaty.)
From decades of research, preserving and promoting, a considerable amount of information on The Real Treaty No. 9, As Orally Agreed-to, exists on file and is available on the Omushkego Education website. Our on-going efforts to preserve and promote what we understood and agreed to in our Treaty Agreement, our Nation Rebuilding Initiative will be hosting a Youth Treaty Conference on November 21-23, 2023 in Timmins, ON.
“We hope that most of the schools in Ontario will take a bit of time this week or throughout the academic year to provide some treaty awareness for the students and educators”

Everyday our communities are faced with major human rights issues in health care, housing, clean water, justice and so on, and it shouldn’t be like this. I will use Treaty Recognition Week to call on the governments of Ontario and Canada to take the Treaty Recognition week further by creating Treaty Implementation tables with us,”
