RESOLUTION NO. 1988-67

SUBJECT: EDUCATION TRANSFER POSITION

WHEREAS we never surrendered our land or our Aboriginal Rights, including the Right to control the education of our Nation, and;

WHEREAS the 1987 Assembly adopted seven principles which must be respected for a successful transfer of education to First Nations control, and established an education transfer planning committee to develop a plan for the transfer of education, and;

WHEREAS the committee submitted its report to the March 1988 Assembly,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

THAT this Assembly expresses its sincere appreciation to the members of the education transfer planning committee for their efforts, and

THAT this Assembly approves the outline, workplan and budget as presented by the committee, and

THAT this Assembly directs the Board of Directors and staff of the Mushkegowuk Council to take whatever steps are necessary to negotiate the said budget and implement the said workplan, and

THAT this Assembly recommends the incorporation of local education authorities in each community, and

THAT this Assembly also approves the incorporation of a tribal service and support organization to be known as the Omushkegowuk Education Association which shall be required to report annually to the Grand Assembly of the Omushkegowuk Nation.
