Support for Missanabie Cree FN in their Land Claim

RESOLUTION NO. 1997-08-12

SUBJECT: SUPPORT FOR MISSANABIE CREE FffiST NATION IN THEIR LAND CLAIM

WHEREAS the Missanabie Cree First Nation have been involved in a process whereby they receive recognition for their entitlement to a land base; and

WHEREAS it is imperative that a land base be allocated to the Missanabie Cree First Nation so they can engage in community based self-sustaining activities within their community; and

WHEREAS in order to pursue self­government initiatives, it is imperative that a land base be allocated in an expeditious manner.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly hereby pledge their support for the Missanabie Cree First Nation in the acquisition of their land base; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly will direct the Grand Chief and the Mushkegowuk staff to work in cooperation with Nishnawbe Aski Nation to assist in a positive outcome of this issue.
