RESOLUTION NO. 1998-08-04

SUBJECT: MUSHKEGOWUK PROTOCOL ON LAND USE

WHEREAS each of the First Nations of Mushkegowuk has the right to govern the use of lands in its traditional areas, including traditional uses and any other use of land resources;

AND WHEREAS it 1s desirable to recognize those rights of each First Nation, and at the same time to promote co-operation and understanding within Mushkegowuk territory;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Grand Chief and the Deputy Grand Chief are mandated and directed to begin and co-ordinate work on a Mushkegowuk Land Use Protocol, which will:

allow each Mushkegowuk First Nation to outline its traditional territory;

recognize that traditional use and resource development use of lands is specific to each First Nation's traditional territory, and that each First Nation has control over those uses in its territory;

lead to discussion and understanding on hunting and other traditional uses across borders inside Mushkegowuk territory, recognizing both the

jurisdiction of each First Nation and the desirability of co­operation and understanding within Mushkegowuk territory;

d) be co-ordinated with current NAN negotiations regarding trapping and licensing.
