RESOLUTION NO. 1998-08-17

SUBJECT: E M E R G E N C Y MEASURES PROGRAM

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly have expressed concerns for public safety in emergency situations and established an Emergency Measures Program in November 1993; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly desire the Emergency Measures Program to continue its work in the areas of emergency planning, search and rescue, environmental management and other aspects of public safety;

AND WHEREAS the population base in Mushkegowuk tenitory, and the richness of forestry resources m the Mushkegowuk territory, and the experience of fires in the Mushkegowuk tenitory (including the recent evacuation experience of the Weenusk First Nation) justify location of a Fire Emergency Centre in Mushkegowuk territory;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council Chiefs in Assembly express their full support for the work and direction of the Emergency Measures Program;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council Chiefs in Assembly encourage the Federal and

Provincial governments to provide full and adequate funding to the Program to enable it to meet its staffing and operating requirements for the continued implementation of this vital service;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council Chiefs in Assembly urge that a Fire Emergency Centre be established in Mushkegowuk territory to be available as a critical base for operations against fires m Mushkegowuk territory.
