Resolution No. 2006-09-03

Development and Implementation of Regional Search and Rescue Services

WHEREAS it is critical that we continue to foster our teachings and traditions by working and supporting each other during times of distress when lives are in danger and when search and rescue operations are required;

WHEREAS the individual First Nation communities continually struggle to secure resources required to be in the position to respond within the Critical Response Time;

WHEREAS First Nations experienced loss of life as a result of the lack of adequate resources to provide critical services within the Critical Response Time;

WHEREAS search and rescue responses will continue to be a reality, and capitalizing on local and regional coordinated responses to maximize our resources in search and rescue volunteers and expertise is critical.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly directs the Mushkegowuk Council executive to initiate a process immediately for the development and implementation of a fully operational and resourced Regional and Local Search and Rescue Operations.

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that Local and Regional Search and Rescue implementation plans be developed and presented for review and approval by the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly in 2007.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the financial audit ending March 31, 2006 be accepted as presented.
