Band Representative for Children in Care

WHEREAS care and protection of families and children in the Mushkegowuk communities are a priority; and

WHEREAS the current legal system pertaining to Child and Welfare matters outside of the Mushkegowuk region do not protect the interests of these families and children; and

WHEREAS former resourcing through the Band Representative program to represent • these children and families no longer exists; and

WHEREAS it is determined that as an interim measure Payukotayno James and Hudson Bay Family Services act in this capacity to ensure community and child interests are protected outside the Mushkegowuk region.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Assembly mandates the Payukotayno James and Hudson Bay Family Services Board of Directors to assume this function and to report accordingly each case to the member First Nation community in question.
