Patient Representatives
Mushkegowuk Hospitals
WHEREAS Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin provides in-hospital patient care services at the Regional Hospital located in Moose Factory; and
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk community members also receive services at Kingston General Hospital; and
WHEREAS receiving medical treatment in times of sickness or injury can often by very confusing and intimidating, and these difficulties are often made much worse in Mushkegowuk territory because of language and cultural differences between patients and medical staff, and because of extra travel and separation and financial difficulties for people in our communities.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin be urged to work towards a patient representative or advocacy programme which will provide knowledgeable and sympathetic assistants to assist Mushkegowuk community members who require medical services.
