Resolution No. 2006-09-25

Support for Child Treatment Centre

WHEREAS within the growing population of Attawapiskat First Nation, there is an increasing number of children with identified varying levels of physical and learning disabilities; and

WHEREAS due to the geographical location of the Attawapiskat First Nation community, support and assessment services for such children and families are non existent; and

WHEREAS these assessment services are required to provide and support the child to enjoy a level of quality of life with the appropriate equipment required for daily activities; and

WHEREAS these assessment services are also required for early detection of potential learning disabilities of children before they enter into school; and

WHEREAS family members require awareness and education on the particular disability that they may work along with the support services to maximize the greatest benefit to the child and parent;

WHEREAS these services require the necessary facilities for staffing and resources such as the Child Treatment Centre.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Assembly acknowledges the needs of the Attawapiskat First Nation and supports their pursuit of a Child Treatment Centre
