Cree Language Immersion

WHEREAS First Nation Education is both an inherent Aboriginal and Treaty Right; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Nation views First Nation Education as an investment in the future of our youth and ultimately the future of our Nation; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Assembly Resolution No. 2008-11-26 expressed interest among various community members in the research, development and implementation of a Cree Language Immersion Program within their community;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates in Assembly mandate the Grand Chief and the Executive to direct Omushkego Education to continue to pursue a Regional Cree Language Immersion Strategy including a First Nation Pilot Project in collaboration with First Nation Education Authorities; and

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that each of the Mushkegowuk Chiefs continue to support the Cree Language Immersion Program by working toward financial .../2

support in the amount of $10,000 to continue this Program in collaboration with their respective Education Authorities; and

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Grand Chief and Mushkegowuk Council continue to explore other potential funding sources from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, other First Nation organizations/businesses and other funding agencies including the Governments of Ontario and Canada.
